The release of Waihonga Arorangi Enamel Pin coincided with the midwinter rising of Puanga 2024 - the star that for many Māori heralds the start of the new year. At this time of year we honour those we have lost since the last rising of Puanga and release their spirits to become stars.

Arorangi (heavenward) acknowledges the journey of our tūpuna as they become stars in the night sky. The golden light between the dark provides direction and focus in our search for ancestral guidance. It also reminds us that our tūpuna are reflected in the whenua below.
